TGTE Election Commission meeting held in the UK

TGTE Election Commission’s meeting was held in the UK on December 29, 2018 in London in order to discuss the process of holding the Third Parliamentary election of the TGTE. In this event the Prime Minister of the Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam Mr. V. Rudrakumaran, Chief Election Commissioner Mr.Pon Balarajan and Election Commissioner of the UK Mr.Sidambarapillai responded to the questions of the general public.


The Prime Minister of TGTE said that the Election Commission has been operating independently and that there is no intervention by the Prime Minister of TGTE or any members of the TGTE. He added that it is an Autonomous constitutional authority and operates under the authority of constitution. The Elections are conducted in a free and fair manner.


In response to the question of action against corrupt members of the TGTE, he made it clear that the public should be able to take action on a specific member for their corrupt activity, and it is the duty of the people to take necessary action by informing the regulatory authority and by recalling mechanism.
Mr.Sidambarapillai responded to the questions of the electoral candidates, citing the manifesto(7.1.2). Clarified that the candidates are allowed to compete in their own constituency however if there are no candidates competing in a particular constituency then someone else from another constituency will be allowed to compete.
Moreover, the electoral candidates will be divided into four categories such as Former members of the TGTE, Women, Youth and New entries. Lesser fee will be charged for Women and Youth. Voters can only vote for one candidate from each category. If there are two votes in one category, then the vote is considered invalid. Voters can vote for any candidate nationwide and it is not necessary for the voters to cast a vote for a candidate from their own constituency.


The election commission has tried to bring improvements by introducing Postal Vote. This will encourage those who are unable to go to the polling booth. The election Commission will launch a website soon in order to provide information about the Election to be held in 2019.
At the end of the session, Pre Nomination forms were given for the applicants.
